Designed in 1964–65 by German architect and designer Helmut Bätzner, the BA 1171 chair is an iconic milestone in furniture design—the first one-piece, mass-produced plastic chair in fiberglass-reinforced polyester. Its sculptural, gently curved shell balances formal elegance, durability, and flexibility, while its stackable form makes it both practical and visually striking.
Produced by Bofinger in Germany, the model debuted at the 1966 Cologne Furniture Fair and earned the Rosenthal-Studio award the same year.
