Pauli Blomstedt Writing Table
A rare Finnish functionalist writing desk designed by architect Pauli Blomstedt in the 1930s. The desk reflects the clear geometry and practical thinking associated with Bauhaus and early modernist design, combining a black lacquered wooden body with a continuous tubular steel frame.
The asymmetrical construction gives the desk a distinctive architectural character. A raised writing surface is paired with a lower side section, while the integrated drawers provide practical storage for documents, stationery and smaller objects. Chrome-plated handles and the curved steel frame create a refined contrast against the deep black finish.
Despite being designed almost a century ago, the desk feels remarkably contemporary. Its compact proportions make it suitable as a writing table, home office desk, console or statement piece in both residential and professional interiors. The open frame keeps the design visually light, while the sculptural silhouette makes the desk striking from several angles.
An exceptional example of 1930s Finnish modernism and Pauli Blomstedt’s functionalist design language. This rare vintage writing desk is ideal for collectors of Finnish design, Bauhaus furniture and early Scandinavian modernism.
