Niels Jørgen Haugesen X-Line Dining Chair with Armrests for Hybodan, 1977
Niels Jørgen Haugesen X-Line Dining Chair with Armrests for Hybodan, 1977
The X-Line dining chair with armrests was designed in 1977 by Danish designer Niels Jørgen Haugesen for Hybodan. Its slim steel construction, open surfaces and emphatic crossed side supports give the chair a light architectural character suited to dining tables, meeting rooms and flexible interiors.
Developed during the late-1970s high-tech movement, X-Line uses its visible structure as both its defining form and a practical source of strength. The X-shaped supports stabilise the chair while allowing the frame to remain remarkably slender and visually transparent.
This version combines a chrome-plated steel frame with a black enamelled perforated-steel seat, backrest and armrests. The gridded surfaces and continuous wire-like frame create a precise graphic rhythm, while slight flex in the structure softens the chair’s strictly geometric appearance.
Four matching vintage chairs are available, each sold and priced individually. They stack closely for compact storage, making them practical as everyday dining chairs or as additional seating that can be brought out when needed.
The narrow profile and open construction allow the chair to sit around a table without appearing visually heavy. Black and polished metal give it a clear presence that works particularly well with wood, stone and restrained contemporary materials.

Material-aware guidance Care for this piece
Based on the materials stated in this piece’s product information. Vintage finishes vary, so test any product on an inconspicuous area first.
Chrome and metal
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. If needed, use a lightly damp cloth with mild soap and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive pads, metal polish and harsh chemicals; these can remove plating, paint or an established patina.
