Tea Trolley 900 designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek in 1937. The design was inspired by British tea culture as well as the Japanese woodwork and architecture admired by Aino and Alvar Aalto. It was first presented internationally at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937.
The trolley features a sculptural bent birch frame, a black ceramic tile top, a woven rattan basket and large white wheels. The warm birch and natural rattan create a distinctive contrast with the graphic black tiles.
Tea Trolley 900 is a versatile piece that can be used as a serving trolley, bar cart, side table or freestanding display piece. Its generous proportions, practical storage basket and immediately recognisable silhouette make it one of Aalto’s most characterful designs.
