Alvar Aalto A622A Ceiling Lamp – Valaisinpaja Oy

Vintage A622A ceiling lamp designed by Alvar Aalto in 1953 and manufactured in Finland by Valaisinpaja Oy. Originally created for the National Pensions Institute in Helsinki, the A622 is one of Aalto’s most recognisable lighting designs and a strong example of his architectural approach to illumination.

The shade is constructed from concentric white-painted metal lamellae arranged in a stepped formation. This layered construction gives the lamp its distinctive sculptural profile while softening and diffusing the light. Rather than exposing the light source directly, the structure creates an even and atmospheric illumination characteristic of Aalto’s lighting designs.

This vintage Valaisinpaja production has a particularly clean and understated appearance and works equally well in residential interiors, hallways, offices or other architectural spaces. A classic piece of Finnish modernist lighting with a design that remains remarkably contemporary more than seventy years after its introduction.
