Vintage Chair 62 designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek in the 1930s. The model is an early example of Aalto’s experiments with bent birch and upholstered seating, combining a compact silhouette with the softly curved construction that became central to his furniture designs. Artek’s own archive identifies Chair 62 as an Alvar Aalto design dating from the 1930s.

This example features a warm birch frame paired with deep red fabric upholstery on both the seat and backrest. The rich red textile contrasts beautifully with the naturally aged birch, while the broad upholstered backrest gives the chair a distinctive and comfortable appearance.

The wooden parts have developed an attractive patina over time, giving the chair plenty of character while preserving the clarity of Aalto’s original design. A particularly appealing vintage Artek chair that works well around a dining table, at a desk or as an individual accent chair.
