Designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek, Chair 69 is one of the most recognisable examples of Finnish modern furniture design. The chair is built around Aalto’s signature bentwood L-leg construction, with a round seat and gently curved backrest that provide a simple and balanced silhouette.
Made entirely from birch, the chair has the warm and natural appearance associated with classic Artek furniture. Its compact proportions and practical design make it well suited for use around a dining table, in a kitchen or workspace, or as an individual side chair. The restrained construction allows it to fit naturally into both contemporary and traditional interiors.
This example is estimated to date from around the 1980s. It features crosshead screws underneath the seat, characteristic of later Artek production.
