Artek H99 Extendable Dining Table in White Laminate by Alvar Aalto

The Artek H99 is an extendable dining table designed by Alvar Aalto in 1956. This Finnish design combines a generous oval-ended white laminate top with clear-lacquered birch edging and distinctive birch HL2 sleeve legs. Its light palette and calm proportions give it a practical presence suited to both everyday dining and larger gatherings.

The H99 belongs to the extendable branch of Aalto’s table family. Its defining HL2 leg uses a metal sleeve fixed beneath the tabletop, into which the birch leg is inserted. This construction supports the substantial top while keeping the legs visually simple and closely connected to Aalto’s wider experiments with birch furniture.

A single extension leaf is stored beneath the tabletop and fitted between the two main sections when additional length is needed. The concealed storage keeps the leaf with the table and allows it to shift from a compact dining format to a longer setting without separate storage. The hard-wearing white laminate surface is framed by the warmth of natural birch, a material contrast characteristic of many Artek tables.
