Alvar Aalto A810 Floor Lamp for Artek
Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1959, the A810 floor lamp is one of the most distinctive examples of his approach to lighting design. Originally created for the National Pensions Institute in Helsinki, the lamp combines a sculptural presence with carefully considered, glare-reducing illumination.
The characteristic shade is constructed from hand-riveted, louvered steel strips, allowing light to pass both directly and indirectly through the layered structure. The tall black leather-covered stem gives the lamp a refined architectural quality, while the polished stainless steel details add a subtle contrast to the white shade and dark base.
The A810 is a particularly recognizable example of Aalto’s lighting designs and works equally well as a functional floor lamp or as a sculptural element in an interior.
