Ilmari Lappalainen Pulkka armchair - Asko Export
Designed in the late 1960s, the Pulkka armchair is one of Ilmari Lappalainen’s most recognizable lounge designs. The name “Pulkka” refers to a sled, which you immediately see in the low, relaxed profile and the flowing cantilever structure. It is a strong example of Finnish modernism meeting a slightly more international, almost space age feel.
This example features black leather upholstery combined with a brushed aluminium frame. The seat is adjustable to three different positions, allowing you to fine tune the sitting angle from more upright to a deeper lounge position. It is genuinely comfortable and supportive, making it ideal as a reading chair or statement lounge piece. Produced by Asko Export, this model reflects the era when Finnish design was actively reaching international markets.
