Ilmari Tapiovaara Domus Chair, 1950s
Vintage Domus chair designed by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, dating from the 1950s. Originally created for the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki, the Domus chair later became one of the best-known classics of Finnish furniture design.
The design combines a curved plywood seat and backrest with short, supportive armrests and a lightweight wooden frame. Its practical proportions allow the chair to be placed close to a dining table or desk while still offering the comfort of an armchair.
This vintage example has developed a warm and beautifully aged patina through decades of use. The visible marks, colour variation and worn surfaces give the chair an individual character and reflect its long history.
A characterful Finnish design classic suitable as a dining chair, desk chair or individual accent chair.

Condition
Condition
Good and fully usable vintage condition with clearly visible signs of age and previous use.
The wooden surfaces show scratches, marks, worn areas, colour variation and a naturally developed patina. The chair is intact and has no major structural damage.
Some of the joints have loosened slightly over time, which is typical of older Domus chairs. The chair remains fully usable, although the joints could be tightened or reglued in the future if desired.
