Yrjö Kukkapuro Experiment Lounge Chair in Black Leather and Yellow Armrests
The Experiment lounge chair was designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1982 for Avarte and represents one of the most expressive periods in Finnish postmodern furniture design. The series combines Kukkapuro’s characteristic focus on ergonomics with a bold and highly graphic visual language.
This example features black leather upholstery, a chrome-plated tubular steel frame and sculptural yellow lacquered plywood armrests. The flowing armrests form the chair’s most distinctive feature, adding movement and softness to the otherwise geometric construction.
The combination of bright yellow, black leather and reflective chrome gives the chair a particularly striking appearance. Despite its experimental character, the design remains carefully proportioned and comfortable, making it suitable as both a functional lounge chair and a statement piece.
