Yrjö Kukkapuro Saturnus Lounge Chair in Burgundy Leather for Haimi

Yrjö Kukkapuro designed the Saturnus lounge chair for Haimi in the late 1960s. This example combines burgundy leather upholstery with a white moulded fibreglass shell and a swivel pedestal base, creating a strong contrast between soft seating and sculptural structure.

The generous seat, back and arm cushions sit within the rounded outer shell, giving the chair an enveloping profile. Its low proportions and curved form reflect Kukkapuro’s experimental approach to plastics and ergonomic seating during the period.

The fitted leather cushions soften the fibreglass construction without concealing its distinctive shape. A working swivel function adds practicality, while the burgundy leather and white base give this vintage example a particularly graphic presence.

The chair is in neat vintage condition. The leather is fully intact with light, age-appropriate patina, the cushioning remains in good condition, the frame is clean and the swivel works as intended. Please review all images for details.
