IKEA Impala

Gillis Lundgren designed Impala for IKEA, where the seating family was launched in 1971. IKEA Museum describes the design as low, futuristic furniture with brightly coloured cushions on a chrome base. It stood apart from the company’s more familiar everyday pieces and was presented as luxurious, different and fashion-conscious.

Gillis Lundgren is the designer, IKEA is the manufacturer and Impala is the model family. IKEA Museum notes that Impala became an immediate success, yet its complex and expensive production meant that it remained in the range for only a short period.
