Alvar Aalto Chair 66 in Birch and White Laminate for Artek

Alvar Aalto designed Chair 66 for Artek in 1935. This Finnish-made example combines a clear-lacquered birch frame with a white high-pressure laminate seat, giving the familiar wooden chair a crisp, practical surface.

Chair 66 belongs to Aalto’s family of bentwood furniture developed around the L-leg. Its construction is deliberately legible: four birch legs attach directly beneath the circular seat, while the broad, handle-shaped backrest gives support and makes the chair easy to move. The proportions suit both dining and occasional use.

The legs and seat edge-band are solid birch, the seat has a birch core with a white laminate surface, and the backrest is made from form-pressed birch plywood. The natural wood and white seat create a light, versatile combination that works particularly well around an Aalto table or as a standalone desk or kitchen chair.

Six chairs are available and each is sold individually. The chairs are in neat vintage condition, with natural patina and normal signs of use to the wooden parts. Minor variation in wear may occur between individual chairs.
