Artek Chair 69 in Birch by Alvar Aalto

Artek Chair 69 is a Finnish birch chair designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935. Its compact proportions, broad seat and curved backrest give the design a straightforward, balanced character suited to dining areas, kitchens and adaptable everyday interiors.

Aalto developed Chair 69 as part of his exploration of bent wood and the L-leg system. The construction allowed the legs to connect directly to the seat while creating a light, durable form that could be produced consistently. The model remains part of Artek’s collection and is made in Finland.

The chair has a natural birch finish, a birch veneer seat and a curved birch backrest. The gently rounded seat and restrained profile are characteristic of Aalto’s practical approach to wooden furniture, combining visual clarity with comfortable support.

Four matching chairs are available, each sold and priced individually. Their stackable form makes them especially useful where seating needs to be stored compactly. The warm, pale birch works easily with both modern and traditional materials.
