Yrjö Kukkapuro Ateljee 3-Seater Sofa for Haimi in Black Leather

Designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro and manufactured by Haimi in Finland, this three-seat Ateljee sofa combines black leather upholstery with a precise, architectural frame. The model was introduced in 1964 and is a characteristic example of Kukkapuro’s ergonomic and structurally expressive approach.

The Ateljee series was conceived as a new kind of sofa construction. Its lightweight modular support structure can be assembled and dismantled, while the separate seating sections allow the composition to be adapted.

This vintage example has three loose seat cushions and three loose back cushions in black leather. The rolled, leather-covered arms soften the rectilinear form of the black-painted wooden side and back panels, which are supported by slender black metal legs and structural elements.

The low profile, visibly articulated construction and generously padded cushions give the sofa a balanced combination of visual lightness and relaxed comfort. The dark monochrome finish emphasises the contrast between the soft upholstery and the disciplined framework.
