Alvar Aalto Stool 60 for Artek, 1960s Finger Joint Edition
Vintage Stool 60 designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek, dating from the 1960s. These earlier examples feature the characteristic finger-jointed construction around the edge of the seat, a distinctive detail found in older Artek production.
Originally designed in 1933, Stool 60 is one of the most recognisable pieces in Finnish modernist furniture. Its construction is based on Aalto’s iconic bent birch L-leg, allowing three legs to connect directly beneath the circular seat and creating an exceptionally simple and functional structure.
The warm birch surfaces on these vintage examples have developed natural variation and patina over decades of use. Together with the visible finger joints, the aged surfaces give the stools a particularly attractive character that distinguishes them from newer production.
A classic and highly versatile piece of Alvar Aalto’s work for Artek, suitable as a stool, occasional seat, bedside piece or small side table.
