Yrjö Kukkapuro Experiment Sofa for Avarte

Designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1982, the Experiment series marked a more playful and expressive turn in his work. Created during the rise of postmodern design and produced by Avarte, the series stood apart from Kukkapuro’s earlier softer organic classics with its more graphic structure, exposed metal frame, and bold color accents.

The collection was first introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair, where it gained wide international attention. This exceptionally rare three-seater sofa is a strong example of that shift. It features a chrome frame, black wool upholstery, and striking yellow armrest elements that give the piece its unmistakable character.

The construction is light and architectural, while the loose upholstered sections keep the overall feel comfortable and usable.

This piece is in good vintage condition with light patina consistent with age. The original black wool upholstery is in very clean condition and fully intact. Minor signs of use and light wear can be seen from normal age and handling. Please review all images for details.
